Water Quality

Did you know irrigation runoff is prohibited? Irrigation runoff not only wastes water, it also carries litter and pollutants into our waterways. Irrigation runoff issues can be reported on the Request Tracker system by clicking on the "Report an Issue" tab on the homepage of the City's website or by clicking here.

Storm Drains

The largest source of water pollution comes from City streets, neighborhoods, construction sites and parking lots. Anything we use outside of our homes, vehicles and businesses-such as motor oil, paint, pesticides, fertilizers, and cleaners, can be blown or washed into the storm drains.

The City's storm drain system is separate from the sewer system. In the sewer system, wastewater (sewage) is transported to wastewater treatment plants through underground sewer pipes. Whereas, in the storm drain system, water collected from the streets goes untreated into creeks and eventually the ocean.
